There is an increasing interest in the production of functional, high value, natural products without chemical modification, without residues of solvents or additives. One approach to this is to use dense phase or supercritical fluids for extraction, separation and concentration of food, natural products and bioactive compounds.

This project aimed to establish pilot scale facilities and expertise in dense CO2 processing and also to improve the profitability and competitiveness of the Australian essential oils industry through the development and industrial application of high level technology.
