Pathogen and dust emissions in exhaust plumes from meat chicken sheds and the potential for disease and disease transmission to humans are increasingly raised as issues of concern when considering the sustainability and impact of the chicken meat industry.
This RIRDC report describes research to produce the first Australian based data on the levels of bacteria (both normal harmless bacteria as well as pathogenic bacteria). As well, the project involved research to produce the first data on the dust emission rates from Australian meat chicken production facilities.
