This study reports on species screening trials that examine the suitability of a range of mallees from northern Australia to extend this system, or a variation of it, to dryland sites in northern NSW and Queensland.

The study has identified a shortlist of species with good potential in terms of survival and biomass productivity that can be recommended for further, more intensive testing in the subtropics. Additionally, some of the species were found to have very promising yield and composition of eucalyptus essential oil.
