There is an opportunity for the production of between 300 and 400 tonnes of Australian-grown mohair, but current national production is a modest 130 tonnes. Farm gate returns from angora goats are currently comparable to some sheep enterprises. This assessment looks at the contraction of the mohair industry, domestic and export markets, supply chains together with the promotion and market development of the industry.
