This research aimed to quantify the number of young farmers working in the Australian farm sector, determine how the number of younger farmers has changed over the past 30 years, and explore the social, demographic and economic
conditions that have caused the decline in the number of young farmers.
The research report also makes some tentative assessments of the implications for food security, economic opportunity and rural community sustainability.
