About four per cent of the Australian workforce is employed in the Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery (AFF) sector. This sector plays an important role in creating wealth and prosperity for the nation, and particularly within rural and regional communities. Using Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) 1996 and 2001 Census of Population and Housing data, a comprehensive social overview of the AFF employees was described in terms of: employment; demography and social characteristics; education; household income; and information technology use. This report, and its companion Social Profile of Australian Dairy Regions, compliments the recently released Country Matters – Social Atlas of Rural and Regional Australia. 2004, 51pgs, Pub No. 04/122; $21
