This study is a preliminary project aimed at highlighting key social and community needs for youth in the Upper South East of South Australia. It brings together the views of young people (aged 18-30) who have left rural communities, those who have remained, rural high school students, and workers who have an interest in encouraging young people to be involved in community life. The report recommends areas for further research, national policy objectives and strategies at the local level to encourage young people to remain in, or return to, rural areas.
