This RIRDC report is targeted at the control of a major exotic pest of honeybees, small hive beetle (SHB), Aethina tumida. SHB is an important pest of European honeybees, especially away from its region of origin, Southern Africa. Since its discovery in NSW in 2002, it has spread along the eastern coast into commercial and feral hives. This project particularly targets the “out-of hive” stages of SHB, as the larvae will leave the hive to burrow and pupate in the soil.
This report is targeted at the Australian beekeepers to assist them in control of SHB.
