It can be safely stated that in the quest to understand the impacts of irrigation on groundwater quality there has been the creation of a complex of ‘known unknowns’. This research marks the commencement of detailed monitoring of salt movements in the irrigation water cycle and a critical step towards formulating strategies to improve utilisation of the natural resource.
