Summary
The purpose of this project is to assist in increasing the scale of the northern Australia rice industry through advancements in:
• Understanding and reducing key barriers to successful large-scale rice production in northern Australia in terms of pests, diseases, agronomy and farming system management.
• Identifying improved agronomic practices, farming systems and rice varieties to lift northern rice yields by addressing barriers such as diseases, pests, water and nutrient management while minimising the impact on the environment.
• Improving the skills of rice growers and research, development & extension staff in northern Australia through the development of crop management packages.

Objective Summary
The objective of this research project is to develop robust, profitable rice-growing packages for both the wet and dry seasons in northern Australia so that farmers can quickly, easily and profitably adopt rice into their farming systems and grow a high-quality premium product with minimal environmental impact.
