This publication reports on the development of an online database of important fuel characteristics of a range of Australian biomass types, including a number of low rainfall species. The report includes the rationale for the project, and the methods used for chemical, combustion and gasification analysis of the 118 biomass type samples analysed. The database gives the results from analysis of different biomass samples from across Australia. In collecting samples, particular importance was placed upon sampling from harvesting operations as close as possible to the processes that biomass for energy may be subjected to. We recommend that bioenergy characterisation is considered during selection processes for tree-farming ventures. The database and this report provide the methods, and fuel and related properties of a range of biomass resources, to inform planning for bioenergy and biofuel production in Australia.
