This RIRDC report focuses on the issues and possible options for the Australian horse industry to collectively fund Research, Development & Extension (R,D&E). Currently segments of the industry voluntarily support RIRDC’s Horse R,D&E Program through an additional fee on new registrations of horses for Thoroughbred racing, and through a range of other voluntary contributions to the program. The registration fee drawn from the Thoroughbred industry, together with other voluntary contributions has been the mainstay of industry funding to date.
This report addresses the options for the industry to establish an R,D&E levy, or set of levies, to collectively fund future R,D&E through RIRDC.
