Hendra virus poses a serious risk to both equine and human health, with delayed diagnosis increasing welfare impacts and exposure risks. This project developed a rapid, point of care molecular diagnostic test using loop mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) to enable accurate detection of Hendra virus within an hour of sample collection. The test demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity when benchmarked against laboratory based diagnostics and offers a practical, portable solution for use in veterinary settings. The outcomes support earlier clinical decision making, improved biosecurity, and reduced disruption across equine breeding and training environments.
