The recent study tour was to gain insight into red bayberry production, processing and marketing in China and to examine the possibility of developing an industry in Australia. This report summarises the history, distribution and climatic requirements of red bayberry production in China, and recent research and development of the industry, particularly for germplasm and cultivars, cultivation techniques, disease and pest management, and harvest and handling. The potential development of the red bayberry industry within Australia is discussed in relation to Australian climatic and environmental conditions.
