On-farm capture and use of biogas has the potential to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from Australia’s dairy industry while reducing operating costs and improving effluent management.

This RIRDC report was commissioned to further inform the steering committee of the Australian Methane to Market in Agriculture (AM2MA) program. However, its findings have application to Australian dairy farmers and technical service providers to Australia’s dairy industry.

Australia’s dairy industry offers significant potential for large scale uptake of methane capture and use technologies. However, for this potential to be realised, capital and operating costs need to be reduced, while key technologies need to be demonstrated and proven in Australian dairy conditions.
