DownloadHendra virus remains a serious biosecurity and zoonotic risk for the equine industry, with delays in laboratory diagnosis posing challenges for horse welfare and human safety. This project sought to improve point-of-care diagnostic capability by redesigning and validating rapid tests capable of detecting both known Hendra virus strains. While initial isothermal testing demonstrated strong analytical performance, the research identified a quantitative PCR based point-of-care platform as a more sensitive and promising solution. The findings support the development of an integrated, regulator aligned approach to faster Hendra virus detection and improved disease management across the industry.
